Active Aerodynamics for RC Vehicles

Senior capstone project consisted of creating an all-in-one package for active aerodynamics on an rc vehicle scale. We mounted a raspberry pi inside of the car as our control unit, along with a 6 axis inertial measurement unit (IMU).

My role was to oversee the raspberry pi, our control script, and gui. we used python for our control sript and gui. the gui was built with Flask and could be accessed with any web browser. I also set up the raspberry pi to host a hotspot to allow for access to the gui when not on eduroam wifi.

we were lucky enough to have some wind tunnel tests to visualize the effect of our aerodynamic components when up vs down. that was very cool to see.

wing up
